Moving an instrument from a laboratory into a field setting changes the question. Environmental variation, handling, power, vibration, temperature, calibration, and deployment time can matter as much as a component's headline sensitivity. A careful field evaluation begins by naming the task and the measurand. It then explains the apparatus, test location, duration, reference instrument or truth source, and the metric used to judge the result.

Make the comparison fair

Record whether the baseline instrument had the same access to the environment, the same averaging time, and the same processing boundary. If a report does not disclose a baseline or uncertainty, do not infer comparative performance.

Separate apparatus from application

A sensor can detect a signal in a documented setting without proving a broader service, survey, or monitoring capability. Explain the demonstrated task, then list the additional conditions a deployment would need to satisfy. This checklist is for evaluating public evidence.
